Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (odds)
Record: 23-8 Overall/12-6 Conference
The Red Raiders cooled off a bit towards the end of the regular season, as they went 1-2 straight up in their last three games. In their last game, they lost to the Oklahoma State Sooners in Norman last Saturday, 52-51. However, they are 5-2 over their last seven games, a stretch that includes wins against the likes of the Baylor Bears, Texas Longhorns, and even Oklahoma. The Red Raiders are being carried by their suffocating defense that is arguably the best in the nation. They are No. 1 in the nation with just 86.7 points allowed per 100 possessions. In their last seven outings, the Red Raiders allowed opponents to average just 68.9 points on a salty 39.8 percent shooting from the field. When Texas Tech beat the Cyclones in Ames last January, 72-60, Iowa State shot just 36.5 percent from the floor and committed 16 turnovers to just 11 by the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Iowa State Cyclones (odds)
Record: 20-11 Overall/7-11 Conference
Iowa State could not pull off a big upset win last Saturday, closing their Big 12 regular-season schedule with a 75-68 loss in Waco to the Baylor Bears. Nevertheless, Iowa State managed to cover the spread as a double-digit underdog. Iowa State shot 47.5 percent from the field against the reigning national champions. The Cyclones were just 5/7 from the foul line, while the Bears were 15/26. Iowa State will have to be more aggressive against the Red Raiders, who are committing 16.2 personal fouls per game. Getting freebies at the charity stripe will help the Cyclones close the gap and avoid getting buried early in a big lead. Izaiah Brockington led the Cyclones starters in the first meeting with Texas Tech, scoring 12 points with nine rebounds in 30 minutes, while Caleb Grill went 4/8 from behind the arc and finished with 17 points off the bench.
Iowa State is 4-2 against the spread in its last six games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
