[sc:MultiSportArticles ]Three 2014 U.S. Open Golf Championship High Value Sleeper Picks
Justin Rose
Justin Rose comes into this year’s edition of the U.S. Open as the defending champion, having won it in 2013. By winning it, Rose made history by becoming the first Englishman to reign supreme in the U.S. Open in over 40 years. This year, Rose will be aiming for another first, and that is to be the first player to win the U.S. Open in back-to-back years since Curtis Strange did it in 1988 and 1989. Clearly, it’s no easy task, but Rose, who has odds of +2,500 to accomplish the same feat, is still a player to keep an eye on.
[sc:Other240banner ]Although Rose failed to make the cut in the Memorial Tournament early this month, it doesn’t blur the fact that he’s having a terrific season to date. Rose finished in the top 10 in three of the last four events he’s participated in, including a share of the fourth place in The Players Championship in May.
Zach Johnson
Rose was in nobody’s radar last year, and then he swooped in and broke Phil Mickelson’s heart. Ranked no. 14 and priced at +4,000, Zach Johnson could just be that person who’ll come out of nowhere and lifts the coveted US Open trophy. Even though he finished at 73rd place in his previous start, the 16-year pro nevertheless has two top-three finishes this season and is well-worth a look.
Charl Schwartzel
A hearty +5,000 price to win the 2014 US Open rests in the shoulders of Charl Schwartzel. The South African is coming off a pair of strong showings in his last two starts. He finished tied for eighth during the Memorial Tournament, and placed 11th in the HP Byron Nelson Championship last May. In 10 events participated so far in the PGA Tour season, Schwartzel has seven top 25s and three top 10s.
