Detroit Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals (8:00 PM ET)

Line: Detroit Tigers (+170) vs. Kansas City Royals (-200); total: 7.0 – view all MLB lines

[sc:MLB240banner ]Matt Boyd (1-2, 7.90 ERA) is doing just fine after getting traded by the Blue Jays to Detroit. In his first start as a Tiger, Boyd emerged on top of the much-more experienced Johnny Cueto, as the 24-year-old lefty allowed just one run on seven hits in seven frames of work in Detroit’s 2-1 win over the Royals on August 5.

Boyd will have to recreate his brilliance in that game later tonight, when he faces Cueto and the Royals anew. Cueto (7-7, 2.69 ERA) has yet to notch a win as part of Kansas City, but intends to get one when he makes his first home start as a Royal. The Tigers are 2-0 in their last two games in Kansas City. The Royals are 4-1 in their last five games against lefty starters.

Writer’s Prediction

Kansas City (-200) wins, 6-4.

Washington Nationals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)

Line: Washington Nationals (+119) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (-129) ; total: 7.0  – view all MLB lines

A poor outing by the Nats’ bullpen cost Gio Gonzalez (8-4, 3.75 ERA) a win in his most recent start. Gonzalez allowed just two runs in five innings of mound duty, but Washington’s relievers imploded in an 11-4 loss against the D-backs on August 5. Gonzalez (3-3, 4.80 ERA on the road this season) looks to win his ninth of the year when he faces the Dodgers later tonight.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, will give the ball to Brett Anderson, who keeps a 6-6 record and a 3.06 ERA across 21 starts. The Nats are 5-5 in Gonzalez’s last 10 road starts, while the Dodgers are 7-3 in their last 10 games at Dodger Stadium against Washington.

Writer’s Prediction

Washington (+119) wins, 3-2.
