Trevor Lawrence was very erratic in the AFC Wild-Card Round matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, but guess what? The Jaguars still pulled through with a miraculous 31-30 come-from-behind victory at home to advance to the next round of the NFL playoffs. Lawrence passed for 288 yards and four touchdowns but also had four interceptions on 28/47 completions. With that win, the Jaguars have now won six games in a row, dating back to the regular season. Jacksonville has serious momentum and with Lawrence overcoming the jitters in his first playoff game, a better performance from him can be expected when the Jags take on the Chiefs. Kansas City’s pass defense is far from elite and it’s one Lawrence could torch. Back in Week 10’s 27-17 road loss at Arrowhead Stadium, Lawrence passed for 259 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 29/40 completions.
The Jaguars are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (-8.5)
Regular Season Record: 14-3
The Chiefs are not new to the playoffs. Since Patrick Mahomes took over as the main starter for the team under center, Kansas City has become a perennial Super Bowl contender. The Chiefs are also well-rested coming into the AFC Divisional Round, as they had a bye in the Wild-Card Round, thanks to a 14-3 record in the regular season. They are on a five-game win streak and have only lost just once in their last 11 outings. The last time they were on the field, the Chiefs destroyed the Las Vegas Raiders on the road in Week 18, 31-13. Kansas City has the tools to upend the Jaguars. This is a team that averaged the most points in the league in the regular season with 29.2 points per game. Mahomes can singlehandedly turn the game against the Jaguars in Kansas City’s favor, because he’s just that talented. In the win over the Jags, Mahomes went 26/35 for 331 passing yards and four touchdowns with only an interception. Kansas City’s defense can also be relied upon here, considering it sacked Lawrence in that contest five times.
The Chiefs are 3-1 against the spread in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 33-21.
