[sc:MLB240banner ]Dominant would be the best word to describe how Tommy Milone (7-4, 3.60 ERA) fared in his most recent start. He pitched seven scoreless innings and registered seven strikeouts to capture the commanding 3-0 win over the White Sox. Milone will look to deliver this kind of performance again when he toes the rubber tonight against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. On the road this season, he carries a 1-2 mark with a 3.66 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP and a .227 opponents’ batting average through 10 games (nine starts).
Kansas City, meanwhile, counters with Yordano Ventura (10-7, 4.24 ERA), who has been on fire in his previous five turns. In that stretch, he went unblemished, 4-0, and compiled an ERA of 1.13, while achieving a career-high of 11 strikeouts in a 5-3 win over the Orioles on August 27. Across 12 home starts, Ventura is 7-4 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.
The Twins are 2-3 in Milone’s last five road starts. The Royals, on the other hand, are undefeated in Ventura’s previous five turns.
Writer’s Prediction
Kansas City (-180) wins, 7-4.
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Los Angeles Angels (9:05 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Dodgers (-180) vs. Los Angeles Angels (+160); total: 7.0– view all MLB lines
Zack Greinke (15-3, 1.59 ERA) continues to show everybody why he deserves to win this year’s NL Cy Young Award. Over his last five starts, the 31-year-old righty has yielded just a total of five runs in 34 1/3 innings logged in. He went 4-1 in that stretch. Greinke aims to improve that mark further when he opposes the Angels, while bringing with him a 7-2 record and a 1.81 ERA in over 12 roads starts on the year.
As for the Halos, they’ve recalled Nick Tropeano from Triple-A Salt Lake to replace the scheduled starter Matt Shoemaker, who is dealing with a right forearm strain. Tonight marks Tropeano’s fourth start with the Angels and he carries a 1-2 record with a dismal 5.51 ERA and .313 opponents’ batting average on the season.
The Dodgers are 3-2 in their past five contests with Greinke starting. The Angels, meanwhile, have lost five of their last seven at Angel Stadium.
Writer’s Prediction
Dodgers (-180) win 4-3.
