One more win separates Kerber and a US Open title after the German wunderkind handily beat Caroline Wozniacki in the semis, 6-4, 6-3.

That victory combined with Serena Williams’ loss in the other semifinals match to Karolina Pliskova has vaulted Kerber to the top of the world rankings. Kerber would be happy to know that but her goal is to win against Pliskova in the finals.

Kerber has been so dominant in the tournament that she has yet to lose a set thus far. She will carry with her to the finals a solid service game, although she did manage to defeat Wozniacki handily despite winning just 58 percent of her first serve points.

Betting on Karolina Pliskova

Pliskova now knows what it’s like to take down a legend. After all, that’s what she’s accomplished when he ousted Serena Williams in the semis of the US Open, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

Defeating Williams is certainly a confidence booster for Pliskova, who’ll now face new world No. 1 Kerber in the finals. Pliskova is a hard-serving player who entered the US Open leading the WTA in aces on the season with 407. She continues to rack up aces in Flushing Meadows with 39 so far.

Like Kerber, Pliskova has dominated her opponents to the point that she’s lost just one set in the tournament. She’s four years the junior of Kerber too so endurance and ability to handle pressure at this level shouldn’t be much of a problem for the 11th-ranked Czech.

Writer’s Prediction

Kerber wins in three sets.
