Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (+1.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Cardinals are looking to build on the first-ever playoff season of the Kliff Kingsbury era, though they will be without star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for the first seven weeks of the 2022 NFL season. That’s also why the training camp and the preseason games will reveal a lot about who can step up the most among the depth guys on the Cardinals’ current receiving room, which includes rookie tight end Trey McBride, who was taken 55th overall by Arizona in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Cardinals have Zach Ertz and Maxx Williams, but it’s McBride who’d likely get featured more in this game against Cincinnati. The Cardinals also lost Christian Kirk to free agency, so expect an eager group of wide receivers from the Cardinals this coming Friday.
The Under is 4-0 in the Cardinals’ last four games overall.
Betting on the Cincinnati Bengals (-1.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
As everyone knows, the Bengals came just a win short of winning the Super Bowl last season. Now with a large target on their back, the Bengals will have to continue strengthening their on-field product in proving that last season’s deep run in the NFL playoffs was no fluke. Just don’t expect Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to play in any of the preseason games, as he is not too far removed from appendectomy surgery. Brandon Allen and Jake Browning along with Drew Plitt to see action in the preseason games. With CJ Uzomah now with the New York Jets, the Bengals could also use these games to get new tight end Hayden Hurst more familiarized with Cincinnati’s system as well as a couple of defensive young cornerbacks in rookies Daxton Hill and Cam Taylor, who were the first two players taken by the Bengals in the 2022 NFL Draft. In fact, the Bengals used their first three picks all on defensive pieces, so defense may be more of an emphasis in this contest by Cincy.
The Bengals are 2-1 against the spread in their last three games in the preseason.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bengals win, 19-13.
