With a 49ers record of 0-8, you’d think the Arizona Cardinals would be more than 2-point favorites in this Week 9 meeting. The Cardinals are also entering this game on a five game winning streak against San Francisco. What’s the deal? Well, the 49ers are 6-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last six games vs the NFC West, while the Cardinals are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games. In addition, the underdog is 6-2 ATS in the last eight games head to head. So, if the 49ers are going to get their first (and only?) win of the 2017 season, this may be the best bet for doing so.

Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (3-4)
The Arizona Cardinals seemed to have the idea of putting one more run together with the team they had to try to make it to the Super Bowl before they got younger and kind of retooled the roster. Now that Carson Palmer is out for the year with a broken arm it seems that ship has sailed, and the rest of this year might be about getting some younger guys some playing time.
The Cardinals come into this game with a 3-4 record, but they are only 1-6 ATS so far this season. In their last game against the Rams they got embarrassed losing 33-0. The starting quarterback in this game for the Cardinals will be Drew Stanton who has been a career backup and when pushed into action has been less than ideal.
So far this season he has thrown for 66 yards and one interception and that all came in the last game against the Rams. To win this game the defense is going to need to be good because the offense is probably going to struggle. They need to force some turnovers and make life really tough on the Rams offense, one that has had all some troubles all year.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (0-8)
On the other side of this match up is the San Francisco 49ers who made the big splash trade right before the deadline, and now they hope they have the quarterback of the future. They traded a second round draft pick to the Patriots in return for Jimmy Garoppolo who probably won’t start this weekend but will be a big part of this team moving forward.
I would expect that C.J. Beathard will get the start in this one, and although he has shown glimpses has has shown that he is a rookie with some of his decision making.
He comes into this game having thrown for 647 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. One of the big issues he has is he doesn’t seem to have a lot of weapons around him.
On the defensive side of the ball the 49ers also really struggle. They are currently giving up 27.4 points per game and 382 yards of offense. To win this game they need to find a way to get some good offense going. The defense should actually be decent in this game, so it’s going to come down to the offensive side of the ball.
Writer’s Prediction:
The 49ers have to get their first win sometime, and I think that will be the perfect time for it. The Cardinals offense will really struggle in this game, and that will lead to a victory by the 49ers. Pick: 49ers (+2)
