Starters: Zack Greinke (11-5, 3.05 ERA) vs. Tyson Ross (6-8, 4.29 ERA)

Pitching:

Greinke is in a groove right now. The former Cy Young Award winner has allowed no more than two earned runs in each of his last six starts. The D’backs are also 8-2 in his last 10 trips to the mound. Ross is coming off one of his best performances of the season, allowing two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts in a 10-2 road win over Philly on July 22. Ross is 3-3 with a 4.53 ERA in eight home starts.

Hitting:

  • Austin Hedges is 3-for-10 vs. Greinke.
  • Paul Goldschmidt is 9-for-27 with two home runs vs. Ross.

Writer’s Prediction:

Arizona wins, 5-2.


Game 2: Saturday, July 28, 8:40PM ET

Starters: Patrick Corbin (7-4, 3.13 ERA) vs. Luis Perdomo (1-5, 6.99 ERA)

Pitching:

Corbin was great in his last start, allowing just an earned run on six hits while striking out nine hitters in 7.0 innings of a 7-1 road win over the Cubs on July 23. He is 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 road starts. Perdomo has yet to pick up a win since April, and in hi last start, he allowed three earned runs on five hits in 6.1 innings of a 5-0 loss in Philly on July 22. Perdomo is 0-4 with a 11.29 ERA in four starts in San Diego this year.

Hitting:

  • Wil Myers is 9-for-22 with a homer vs. Corbin.
  • Paul Goldschmidt is 8-for-20 with three home runs vs. Perdomo.

Writer’s Prediction:

Arizona wins, 6-4.


Game 3: Sunday, July 29, 4:10PM ET

Starters: Clay Buchholz (2-1, 2.56 ERA) vs. Joey Lucchesi (5-5, 3.34 ERA)

Pitching:

Buchholz is having quite a revival this year. He has not allowed more than an earned run in six of his last eight starts. That stretch includes the Diamondbacks’ 5-1 road win over the Cubs on July 24 in which the 33-year-old pitcher surrendered just an earned run on six this in 6.2 innings of action. Lucchesi earned a win in his last start, as he gave up a pair of runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of a 3-2 road win versus the Mets on July 23.He is 3-3 with a 3.64 ERA in 10 home starts this season.

Hitting:

  • Eric Hosmer is 3-for-10 vs. Buchholz.
  • Nick Ahmed is 2-for-5 vs, Lucchesi.

Writer’s Prediction:

Arizona wins, 5-3.
