Betting on the Arkansas Razorbacks (odds)
Record: 15-5 Overall / 7-4 Conference
After stumbling in a loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater on Jan. 30, Arkansas seemed to have regained its footing as the Razorbacks have since defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs at home, 61-45, and the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, 81-80. In terms of scoring, the Razorbacks are among the best in the nation. In fact, they are seventh overall with 82.7 points per game, and it has a lot to do with their dizzying pace of play. The Razorbacks are third in the nation with 66.2 field goal attempts per game, and they are sparking their speedy attack with great rebounding. Arkansas is ninth in Division I basketball with 40.9 total rebounds per game. The Razorbacks weren’t able to control the board in the first meeting with Mizzou, which partly explains their 81-68 home loss to the Tigers on Jan. 2. Moses Moody had 18 points in that game for Arkansas, while JD Notae had 19 coming off the bench.
Arkansas is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games overall.
Betting on the Missouri Tigers (odds)
Record: 13-3 Overall / 6-3 Conference
The Tigers will look to get back in the win column following an embarrassing 80-59 road loss to the Ole Miss Rebels on Feb. 10. It was the first loss in four games for the Tigers. Missouri got doomed in the Mississippi game by its lousy defense that let the Rebels shoot 70 percent inside the arc and 38.1 percent from deep. Missouri’s not the best defensive team out there, but it’s not usually that bad also. The Tigers are 49th in the nation with an adjusted defensive efficiency rating of 94.5 They can certainly play defense, as shown in their win over Arkansas in which the Razorbacks made just 26.8 percent of their attempts from the field. As long as the Tigers win the rebounding battle, they are going to be just fine against Arkansas, which is shooting only 45.0 percent from the field this season. The tandem of Jeremiah Tilmon and Xavier Pinson combined for 48 points and 16 rebounds in the previous meeting with Arkansas.
Missouri is 3-1 against the spread in its last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Arkansas wins, 78-75.
