Betting on the Atlanta Falcons (+3)
Regular Season Record: 0-2
It’s not looking good right now for Matt Ryan and the Falcons. They started the season getting blown up by the Philadelphia Eagles in a 32-6 home loss, the Falcons traveled down south in Week 2 only to get beat up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday, 48-25. There are plenty of problems the Falcons have to deal with, obviously, but at least their offense was more productive in Week 2. They kept in step with the defending Super Bowl champions until Ryan got pick-sixed twice in the fourth quarter. Ryan can still look forward to a better outing in Week 3 against the Giants, who are allowing opponents to convert over 75 percent of their pass attempts. The defense has been problematic for Atlanta, but it’s not like it will be facing an elite offense in Week 3.
The Falcons are 7-2 against the spread versus a team with a sub-.500 record.
Betting on the New York Giants (-3)
Regular Season Record: 0-2
The Giants can blame themselves for letting the Washington Football Team steal a 30-29 win in Week 2. The Giants were led by Daniel Jones in that game, passing for 249 yards and a touchdown with an interception on 22/32 completions. He also paced the team with 95 rushing yards and a TD on nine carries. It’s supposed to be Saquon Barkley leading the team on the ground, but it doesn’t seem like he’s back to his old self yet. But the Giants could see him break out in 2021 in Week 3 against the Falcons’ toothless defense. Making things worse on defense for Atlanta is the potential absence of their best cornerback in AJ Terrell, who suffered a concussion against the Bucs. Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton, and Kenny Golladay could have lots of fun on Sunday.
The Giants are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games against NFC teams.
Writer’s Prediction
The Giants win, 26-23.
