Betting on the San Francisco Giants (+149)

Regular Season Record: 0-0

After winning 107 games in 2021, the Giants regressed so hard in 2022 during which they won just 81 games and ultimately missed the postseason. Now, the Giants look to kick things off on a positive note, with Logan Webb taking the ball Thursday against the Yankees. Webb went 15-9 in 2022 to go with a 2.90 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He won six games and lost three across 15 road starts last season while collecting a 2.89 ERA in those contests. Offensively, the Giants will look to rely on new acquisitions Michael Conforto and Mitch Haniger to solve Gerrit Cole. Conforto and Haniger are a combined 9-for-26 with two home runs and four RBI against Cole.

The Giants are 4-1 in the last five series openers.

Betting on the New York Yankees (-171)

Regular Season Record: 0-0

Cole is still the top ace in the Bronx, and he will look to baffle Giants hitters when he takes the mound this Thursday. The 32-year-old Cole is coming off the 2022 season in which he went 13-8 with a 3.50 ERA and 1.02 WHIP. While his ERA isn’t particularly impressive, batters hit just .209 against him in 2022. If anything, Cole can expect New York’s bats to back him up, and it all begins with no other than Aaron Judge. The hulking Yankees outfielder posted arguably the single-best batting season in MLB history, as he slashed .311/.425/.686 in 2022 with 62 home runs and 131 RBI across 696 plate appearances. Judge can hit anything out of the park for the Yankees, who were second in the majors last year with 4.89 runs per game.

The Yankees are 4-0 in their last four interleague home games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Giants win, 5-4.
