Betting on the Atlanta Hawks (+7)

Atlanta’s defense was nowhere to be found in Tuesday night’s loss to the visiting Magic, who scored a season-high 131 points and shot nearly 60 percent from the floor, including 44 percent from three-point range.

The Hawks can expect the same result against the Raptors—the NBA’s third-highest scoring team (111.9 PPG)—tonight if that kind of defense shows up again.  Both teams just met earlier this month at the Philips Arena, wherein Toronto cruised to a 128-84 victory and had eight players finish in double-digits in points.

Offensively, the Hawks have been okay, averaging more than a 100 points a contest this season. They also put together a 120-point effort despite the loss to Orlando, with the combo of Dwight Howard (20 points, 16 rebounds) and Dennis Schroder (19 points, 13 assists) leading the way.

Schroder, in particular, is on a roll right now, posting 21.6 points on 51.9 percent shooting and 8.0 assists in the last eight games. Atlanta’s gone just 2-6 SU and ATS in that stretch, however.

Betting on the Toronto Raptors (-7)

DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry directed another offensive onslaught on Wednesday night in Philadelphia, combining for 51 points on nearly 60 percent shooting—along with six three-pointers from the latter—in an easy 123-114 win over the lowly Sixers.

That’s the fourth time in six games the Raptors have put up 120-plus points. They’ve also won their last four games (4-0 ATS), and hope to extend that run to five against an Atlanta team that’s coming off its worth defensive outing of the season against the Magic.

Lowry and DeRozan are averaging 21.2 and 28.3 points, respectively, this year. But DeRozan’s been obviously having a better campaign as he’s already finished with 30 or more points in more than half—13 to be exact—of Toronto’s games thus far this season. He’ll also be looking to punch his third-straight 30-point game later.
