Betting on the Auburn Tigers (23-4 Overall / 10-4 Conference)

The Tigers averted a three-game losing skid by defeating the Tennessee Volunteers at home last Saturday, 73-68. Auburn’s resiliency was tested in the game, as they had to come back from an eight-point halftime deficit. Fortunately for Auburn, its offense woke up in the second half, outscoring the Volts in that frame by 15 points. Auburn survived that game despite shooting an atrocious 42.1 percent from the field and getting outrebounded, 37-28. The Tigers used their defense to spark a lethal stretch that had them scoring 18 straight points during a decisive stretch in the second half. The Tigers collected 18 steals and forced Tennessee to commit 24 turnovers. Auburn showed that same defensive intensity in their 75-66 home win over Kentucky earlier this month. Auburn will look to flex its muscle on the glass again in the rematch against the Wildcats, whom the Tigers beat on the boards by a massive margin, 42-28.

The Tigers, who are third in the nation with 41.5 rebounds per game, have seen the total go over in three of their last four contests away from home.

Betting on the Kentucky Wildcats (22-5 Overall / 12-2 Conference)

There’s a strong argument to be made on the idea that the Wildcats have gotten stronger since their last meeting with Auburn. After all, they’ve won all of six games since and could extend that win streak to seven if the could take care of business in College Station against the Texas A&M Aggies this Tuesday. In their most recent outing, the Wildcats defeated the frustratingly inconsistent Florida Gators at home last Saturday, 65-59. The Wildcats will look to use the Auburn rematch as the validation of their improvement of late, as they have not dealt with a ranked team in any game between their last meeting with the Tigers and this Saturday’s outing in Lexington. The pair of Immanuel Quickley and Tyrese Maxey combined for 45 points in the loss to Auburn.

The Wildcats are 10-0 straight-up (SU) and 5-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Kentucky wins, 71-70.
