Betting on the Auburn Tigers (odds)
Record: 14-3 Overall/4-1 Conference
Auburn survived a thriller at home last Saturday, as the Tigers beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 69-63. The Tigers have also now extended their win streak to three games. Auburn’s scoring output in the meeting with the Bulldogs was way lower than the team’s season average of 72.5 points per game, but the Tigers should be able to generate more against LSU. For one, LSU is just 11th in SEC play with 112.9 points allowed per 100 possessions. LSU has also allowed opponents to post an effective field goal percentage higher than 50% in three of its last four outings. As for its own defense, Auburn isn’t too shabby with just 91.9 points allowed per 100 possessions and 63.2 points surrendered per contest.
Auburn is 2-1 against the spread in its last three games overall.
Betting on the LSU Tigers (odds)
Record: 12-5 Overall/1-4 Conference
LSU just wants to end its skid. The Tigers are on a four-game losing streak after getting ripped apart by the Alabama Crimson Tide last Saturday to the tune of a 106-66 score. After such a demoralizing loss, there’s just no way but up for LSU, which got absolutely shut down offensively by Alabama. Leading scorer KJ Williams only had 10 points in that loss, while Adam Miller produced just nine points. Williams and Miller lead LSU this season with 18.0 and 12.8 points per game, respectively. The Tigers got torched by Alabama from deep, with the Crimson Tide going off for 20 3-pointers. LSU might not have to worry about Auburn’s outside shooting, though, as Bruce Pearl’s team is just 313th nationally with a pathetic 30.2 3FG%.
The Under is 3-2 in LSU’s last five games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Auburn wins, 72-68.
