Betting on the Baltimore Ravens (7-5)
Do the Ravens really need to rush Joe Flacco back from his injury? Maybe not. After all, rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson has been leading Baltimore’s offense just fine. Jackson looked solid under center once again in last week’s 26-16 road win over the Atlanta Falcons, as he passed for 125 passing yards on 12-of-21 completions and while he didn’t have a touchdown pass, he wasn’t intercepted either. Plus, he did damage on the ground with 75 rushing yards and a score on 17 carries. He and fellow rookie in running back Gus Edwards are a problem in the backfield. The duo should pose headaches for Kansas City’s middling run defense that is allowing 122.0 rushing yards per game. Edwards seems to have taken over the feature role in Baltimore’s backfield after collecting 200 rushing yards on 44 carries over the last two outings.
The under is 4-1 in the Ravens’ last five road games.
Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (10-2)
With or without Kareem Hunt, the Chiefs are going to be just fine. At least, that’s what they proved in last week’s 40-33 road win against the Oakland Raiders. As long as Patrick Mahomes is leading this team, the Chiefs’ attack will remain deadly and hard to stop. Against the Raiders, Mahomes passed for 295 passing yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions on 23-of-38 completions. He also led the team with 52 rushing yards, while running back Spencer Ware, in his first game as the new No. 1 tailback this season, had 47 rushing yards and a touchdown on a team-high 14 carries. Baltimore’s run defense is among the stoutest in the NFL, but Mahomes and the Chiefs’ passing attack should loosen up the Ravens’ stop unit enough for Ware and company to see extra holes to run through it.
After scoring 40 in the Raiders game, the Chiefs improved their league-leading average in scoring offense to 37.0 points per game.
The Chiefs are 8-2 straight up (SU) and 6-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Kansas City wins, 33-27.
