Betting on the Baltimore Ravens (+3)

All of a sudden, the Ravens find themselves winless over the past two weeks. After racing to three straight wins to start the season, Baltimore has suffered back-to-back losses to Oakland (28-27) and Washington (16-10) in Weeks 4 and 5, respectively.

The Ravens now look to recover their mojo on the road, as they take on the Giants this Sunday. That seems to be a nice sign for those looking to bet on Baltimore’s spread, considering that the Ravens are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games dating back to last season.

The Ravens have to get better on offense in order for them to return to winning ways. The issues on that side of the ball couldn’t have been highlighted more than the team’s failure to score in the entire second half of the Washington game on Sunday.

Joe Flacco’s arm is still dangerous though, one that poses problem for the Giants’ defense that ranks just 21st against the pass. Flacco passed for 210 yards with a touchdown on 30 of 46 completions against the Redskins. Flacco, however, could possibly be minus one main weapon in Week 6 with Steve Smith suffering an ankle injury in the last game.

If anything, seeing their backfield pump out 118 rushing yards against Washington suggests that the Ravens are slowly achieving balance on their offense. The Ravens are averaging 99.0 rushing yards per game on the season but have gathered at least 118 on the ground in each of their last two outings.

Betting on the New York Giants (-3)

One streak continued and another ended for the Giants in their 23-16 road loss to Green Bay on Sunday. While they prolonged their losing skid to three games, the Giants must be a bit relieved that wide receiver Odell Beckham got his first touchdown of the season.

Hopefully for the Giants, a rejuvenated Beckham will play a much bigger role on the offense next time around against Baltimore. Beckham aside, the Giants need the pair of Sterling Shepard and Victor Cruz to resurface after disappearing in the Green Bay game, as the two contributed a pathetic total of 14 yards on two catches and nine targets.

It didn’t help that Eli Manning was pressured the whole game by Green Bay with the Giants quarterback getting sacked three times for a loss of 17 yards. Manning passed for just 199 yards with a TD on 18 of 35 completions.

As for the defense, New York’s pass rush has to be quicker against Baltimore. Aaron Rodgers was barely touched last Sunday with the Giants recording no sack in the entire game. Getting to Joe Flacco is tops on New York’s priority with the Ravens largely a pass-dependent team.

The under is 4-1 in the Giants’ last five games overall.

Writer’s Prediction
