Chicago Cubs vs. Oakland Athletics (4:05 PM ET)
Line: Chicago Cubs (-170) at Oakland Athletics (+150); total: 8.0 – view all MLB lines
It’s hard to see the Cubs losing this one, especially with Kyle Hendricks (10-7, 2.22 ERA) getting the nod. He’s been sensational throughout the entire season and his last start, against the Marlins on Monday, could certainly attest to that. Hendricks registered nine shutout innings, marking his third career complete game. He is, however, just 2-6 with a 3.75 ERA in nine road starts this year.Over on the host team’s side, the Athletics are sending lefty Sean Manaea (3-6, 4.68 ERA) on the mound. He holds a 2.51 ERA in his last five starts, which includes a pair of shutout performances versus the Astros and Rays, respectively. At home this season, Manaea has gone 3-2 with a 3.39 ERA.
Writer’s Prediction
Cubs (+113) win, 6-1.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners (4:10 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Angels (+112) at Seattle Mariners (-122); total: 8.0 – view all MLB lines
Matt Shoemaker (6-11, 4.08 ERA) is without a doubt the best starter in the Angels’ rotation this season. He enters today’s matchup with the Mariners having managed to hold the opposition to three runs or fewer in 12 of his last 15 starts. And during that stretch, he owns an ERA of 2.85 and has also struck out a total of 103 batters across 101 frames. Shoemaker is 3-3 with a 3.92 ERA in nine career games (seven starts) versus the Mariners.
Speaking of the Mariners, they’ll be countering with James Paxton (3-5, 3.93 ERA), who is coming off a splendid outing against the Red Sox on Monday. In that game, he yielded only one run on four hits in eight innings. Seattle, however, lost that game 2-1.
Writer’s Prediction
Mariners (-122) win it, 4-1.
