[sc:MultiSportArticles ]Detroit Tigers vs. Cleveland Indians (7:05 PM ET)
Line: Detroit Tigers (+115) at Cleveland Indians (-125); total 8.0 – view these lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]The Detroit Tigers are on the heels of back-to-back road wins against the Indians, extending their streak to six straight wins in Cleveland. For the third game of their series, the Tigers send Justin Verlander (12-11, 4.68 ERA) to the mound. Verlander had a strong start in his last outing, limiting the White Sox to a single run while matching a season-high, eight strikeouts over seven innings on Friday. The Detroit Tigers are 7-3 in their last 10 games to put them a game and a half ahead of Seattle for the second wild card playoff spot.
Still, going against the Cleveland Indians won’t be an easy task. The Indians have not lost six straight home games against the Tigers since 1988. Starting for Cleveland is Danny Salazar (5-6, 4.23 ERA), who owns an impressive 1.69 ERA over his last three starts. Salazar won for the first time in four outings when he shutout Kansas City over five innings on Friday.
Writer’s Prediction
The Cleveland Indians (-125) take this one from the Tigers.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Toronto Blue Jays (+120) at Tampa Bay Rays (-130); total 7.0 – view these lines
The Toronto Blue Jays have won three-straight games to keep their playoff hopes alive. Taking the ball for Toronto tonight is Marcus Stroman (8-5, 3.88 ERA). Stroman’s last start broke a string of rough outings, as he surrendered just one run over seven and two-thirds of an inning against Boston last Wednesday. Previously, he had given up five or more runs in three of his last four starts, including an 8-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on August 22.
The Tampa Bay Rays will be starting Chris Archer (8-7, 3.40 ERA). Archer matched a career-worst performance for his last start, yielding seven earned runs in just four innings against Boston on Friday. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay’s batters are struggling to find their collective swing at the plate. They are hitting just .170 over their last 10 games at Tropicana Field. The Rays have lost 10 of their last 15 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Toronto Blue Jays (+120) extend their win streak to four.
