[sc:MLB240banner ]The banged up rotation of the Royals gets a shot in the arm later tonight, as they get Danny Duffy (2-3, 5.87 ERA) back. Duffy, who was placed in the 15-day disabled list because of a shoulder injury, will make his first big-league start since May 16, when he gave up four earned runs in five innings in a Royals’ 5-1 loss to New York. The over is 3-1 in his last four starts.
The Mariners, meanwhile, will give the ball to Roenis Elias (4-4, 3.56 ERA), who is coming off a sterling performance in the team’s 5-2 win over Houston last Friday. Elias gave up just two runs on four hits and struck out a season-high 10 batters. The under is 8-1-1 in Elias’ last 10 starts.
Writer’s Prediction
Kansas City wins, 7-3.
San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants (10:15 PM ET)
Line: San Diego Padres (+114) vs. San Francisco Giants (-124); total: 7.0– view all MLB lines
San Diego has won in all of Ian Kennedy’s (5-4, 5.43 ERA) last four starts, but the righty still has a long way to go to get his ERA to a respectable level. He’ll look to duplicate his great performance in his last start– he held Oakland to just one run on four hits through six innings in the Padres’ 3-1 win last Thursday–when he takes on the Giants tonight. San Diego is 7-3 in Kennedy’s last 10 starts at AT&T Park.
As for the Giants, they’ll have Ryan Vogelsong, who was last seen on the mound destroying the Mariners on Thursday. Vogelsong pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six in the Giants’ commanding 7-0 win over Seattle. Dating back to 2012, the Giants are 4-1 in Vogelsong’s last five home starts against San Diego.
Writer’s Prediction
San Diego wins, 3-2.
