New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros (8:10 PM ET)

Line: New York Yankees (+120) at Houston Astros (-130); total: 7.0 – view all MLB lines

This game marks Masahiro Tanaka’s (7-2, 3.00 ERA) second start against the Astros this season. He logged in 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball along with five strikeouts and got the no-decision in the first one, which happened on Opening Day. More importantly, the Japanese pro should be able to put on another solid show on the mound given the fact that he’s fared really well in his recent outings. Tanaka has allowed no more than three runs in each of his past three starts, including a shutout performance against the Giants last week.

As for the host team, the Astros are also expecting a good output from their own starter in Lance McCullers (5-4, 3.33 ERA). He enters tonight’s series finale with the Yankees having yielded just three runs or fewer in each of his last six outings. McCullers, who’s making his first career start against New York, has also compiled a total of 46 K’s in the same stretch, which includes a pair of 10-strikeout showings versus the Mariners and Angels.

Writer’s Prediction

Astros (-130) win, 3-2.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Kansas City Royals (8:15 PM ET)

Line: Los Angeles Angels (+110) at Kansas City Royals (-120); total: 8.0 – view all MLB lines

Matt Shoemaker (5-10, 3.99 ERA) has been a pleasant surprise for the Angels this season. He was faulted for just two runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Astros last Friday. And more importantly, he’s established himself as one of baseball’s top-tier pitchers right now, boasting a quality 2.39 ERA in his last 12 starts. Shoemaker, though, is only 0-2 with an extremely disappointing 13.50 ERA—yes, you read that right—across three career starts versus the Royals.

Speaking of the reigning World Series champions, they’ll be expecting to see Danny Duffy (6-1, 3.14 ERA) outduel the Halos’ starter. The 27-year-old lefty produced solid results in his last start against the Rangers last Friday, surrendering just one run through 6 2/3 innings of work to help the Royals notch the 3-1 victory. But Duffy is only 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in three career games (two starts) versus the Angels.

Writer’s Prediction

Royals (-120) win it, 5-2.
