It’s not over till it’s over. Such were the words of New York Yankees great Yogi Berra back in his day, words that the current batch of Bronx Bombers are leaning on in their quest to catch the Toronto Blue Jays atop the American League East. They meet for Game 2 of their critical series tonight.
In another big game later tonight, the Los Angeles Angels and the Houston Astros each look to improve their respective chances of making it to the postseason, at least as a wild card. And for more top MLB coverage, check out our continuing look at the AL and NL wild card races here.

[sc:MLB240banner ]Luis Severino (4-3, 3.12 ERA) is pitching a lot of meaningful games in his rookie year. Take for example his mound duty later tonight against Toronto. In his most recent outing, Severino pitched five-plus innings and allowed one run on six hits with seven strikeouts to guide the Yankees into a 3-1 win at Tampa on September 16.
Severino, however, hasn’t found success against the Blue Jays, as he is 0-2 with a sky-high 9.72 ERA in two starts against Toronto this year.
The Blue Jays, meanwhile, will give the ball to Marco Estrada (13-8, 3.14 ERA). Estrada is 1-2 with a 4.09 ERA in four starts against the Yankees so far this season. The Yankees are 4-1 in Severino’s last five starts, while the Blue Jays are 5-1 in Estrada’s last six at home.
Writer’s Prediction
New York wins, 6-4.

The Angels are 3-0 in Hector Santiago’s (8-9, 3.47 ERA) last three starts. Santiago and the Halos look to extend that streak when the lefty takes on Houston later tonight. Santiago, however, was knocked around in his last start, giving up five earned runs on five hits in just 0.2 frames in an 11-8 loss to Minnesota on September 17. Santiago is winless with an impressive 1.40 ERA in three starts this season against Houston.
As for the Astros, young Lance McCullers (5-6, 3.18 ERA) is their guy on the mound for Game 2 of this series. McCullers is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in three starts thus far this month. The Astros are 7-1 in McCullers’ last eight home starts.
Writer’s Prediction
Houston wins, 5-3.
