Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots (1:00 PM ET)
Line: Buffalo Bills (+7.5) at New England Patriots (-7.5); total: 43.0 – view all NFL lines
With Tom Brady suspended for one more week, and Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) and Jacoby Brissett (thumb) being hurt, the Patriots announced Friday afternoon that they still have no clue who they’ll start at QB on Sunday. Who cares, though? New England doesn’t seem to get bothered no matter what. It’s the number one reason why the majority wants them to lose.
Whether it’s Garoppolo or Brissett, the Pats will likely run the ball heavily. The QBs are nursing injuries and it’ll be ideal for them to play it safely. Plus, their primary running back, LeGarette Blount, is doing a great job. The 29-year-old is currently leading the league in rushing yards (298), yards per game (99.3), and total touchdowns (four, tied with three players).
After shocking Arizona Cardinals this past week, 33-18, the Bills will be entering this week’s game with some momentum they could build on. Buffalo, however, is inconsistent on defense, as evidenced by them allowing 13, 37, and 18 points in the first three weeks.
For the Bills to win, a lot of things have to happen correctly. It must be reminiscent of the Cardinals game, wherein they ran well (208 yards) and got to the quarterback often (five sacks).
Writer’s Prediction
The Patriots (-7.5) win, 24-10.
Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees (3:05 PM ET)
Line: Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees – view all MLB lines
Baltimore cannot afford to lose their final regular season game after they lost 7-3 to the Yankees yesterday. The loss coupled with the Blue Jays win once again deadlocked their records, this time to 88-73, in the AL wild card race.
This Sunday, they will start with Kevin Gausman (8-12, 3.66 ERA). The LSU product last started on Tuesday’s 5-1 loss to Toronto, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks over six innings, while striking out five. Collectively, the Yankees are only batting .207 opposite Gausman.
The Yankees, who are now eliminated from the playoffs, will try to play spoiler once again. After spoiling David Ortiz’s last game at Yankee Stadium this past Thursday, they halted Baltimore’s attempt on solidifying a wild card spot on Saturday.
First-year pitcher Luis Cessa (4-3, 4.18 ERA) is getting the start for the Yanks this Sunday. The rookie was last in action last Thursday, where he gave up two earned runs on five hits and one walk, while striking out two. Baltimore’s batters, as a whole, only have a combined 24 at-bats against Cessa, and no one has faced the pitcher more than three times.
Writer’s Prediction
The Yankees win and play spoiler again, 8-6.
