If the regular season ended now, the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays would be the two wild card teams in the American League. But with a few more games of regular-season baseball remaining, both clubs will look to continue holding onto their respective positions in tonight’s crucial series opener at Rogers Centre.
Later on, the San Francisco Giants will also have the same goal in mind when they open up their own three-game set with the visiting Colorado Rockies. Read on below for a quick look at both games.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7:07 PM ET)
Line: Baltimore Orioles (+140) at Toronto Blue Jays (-155); total: 8.5 – view all MLB lines
Pitching in this all-important game for Baltimore is Kevin Gausman (8-11, 3.57 ERA). He had his previous scheduled start moved to today due to an intercostal issue. Gausman’s been spectacular through 10 starts since July, averaging a solid ERA of 2.57. His last start, however, was disappointing as he allowed five runs on 6 1/3 innings in an eventual loss to the Red Sox.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are trusting Aaron Sanchez (13-2, 3.12 ERA). He’s faced the O’s four times this season, and has gone 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA during those starts. Sanchez also logged in six innings of one-run ball versus Seattle last Wednesday despite getting the no-decision.
Writer’s Prediction
Toronto (-155) wins it, 5-2.
Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants (10:10 PM ET)
Line: Colorado Rockies (+170) at San Francisco Giants (-200); total: 8.0 – view all MLB lines
Colorado’s postseason hopes look really dim, but its chances of winning tonight are the complete opposite. The reason for that is because of German Marquez (1-0, 3.48 ERA), who’s set to make his second career MLB start. He was great in his previous start against the Cards on Wednesday, registering five innings of one-run ball and a win. But can Marquez replicate that against the Giants? We shall see.
Speaking of the Giants, they’re countering with Matt Moore (11-2, 4.34 ERA). He’s coming off an ugly start versus the Dodgers last week, and enters tonight’s game with an 11.74 ERA in two career starts Colorado. If that trend continues, you can expect San Francisco to lose here.
Writer’s Prediction
Giants (-200) win, 5-4.
