Line: Washington Nationals (-138) at New York Mets (+128); total: 7.0 – view all MLB lines
[sc:Other240banner ]The Nationals will send Stephen Strasburg (8-10, 3.68 ERA) to the mound later tonight as they look to grab their 11th consecutive road victory against the New York Mets which will set a new franchise record. Washington has continued their success at Citi Field by winning the first two games of this series behind stellar pitching performances by Doug Fister and Jordan Zimmermann.
They now turn the ball over to Strasburg who has struggled on the road for the Nationals this season who is just 1-8 on the road this year with a dismal 5.25 ERA.
The Mets on the other hand, will start Dillon Gee (4-4, 3.54 ERA). He has been impressive in his last two outings, allowing a total of three runs and eight hits over 12 2/3 innings but the lack of run support from the Mets resulted in him getting no-decisions in both games. Gee is 7-3 with a 3.23 ERA in his 13 starts against the Nationals.
The Nationals are 5-5 on the road in their last 10 games while the Mets are 4-6 in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Nationals (-138) will continue their dominance against the Mets and extend their lead in the NL East.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Chicago Bears (8:00 PM ET)
Line: Jacksonville Jaguars (+4) at Chicago Bears (-4); total: 42.0 – view all NFL lines
Chad Henne and Blake Bortles will resume their battle for the Jaguars’ starting quarterback position when Jacksonville squares off with the Chicago Bears later tonight at Soldier Field. Bortles, the third overall pick in this year’s draft, was solid in his preseason debut, completing 7-of-11 passes for 117 yards, helping the Jaguars beat the Buccaneers 16-10.
Last season, starting QB Henne recorded 3,241 passing yards. In his game against the Bus, he completed 4-of-7 passes for 30 yards. According to head coach Gus Bradley, he plans to use Henne for the entire first half against the Bears tonight, while Bortles will play second half.
The Chicago Bears, were equally impressive in their opening preseason game as they edged past the Philadelphia Eagles 34-28 in a high-scoring affair.
Jay Cutler completed 9-of-13 touches for 85 yards, while Jimmy Clausen and Jordan Palmer impressed as well, throwing three touchdown passes between the two QBs as the Bears opened their preseason on the right note.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bears’ (-4) offensive firepower will be too much for the Jaguars as they’ll record their second consecutive preseason win.
