Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Washington Nationals (-138) at New York Mets (+128); total: 7.0 – see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]Citi Field isn’t the Nationals’ home, but it feels like it is because they can’t stop winning there. After their 3-2 win last night against the Mets, the Nationals extended their unbeaten streak in Queens to 10 straight games. However, the Mets will have Dillon Gee (4-4, 3.54 ERA) on the mound tonight. The Mets are 3-0 in Gee’s last three starts during the third game of a series.
Writer’s prediction: Gee guides Mets to win, avoid sweep.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Miami Marlins (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Arizona Diamondbacks (+115) at Miami Marlins (-125); total: 8.0 – see all MLB lines
Coming off a 1-0 win in extra innings against the Cleveland Indians last night, the Diamondbacks continue their road trip to Miami, where they are 8-2 in their last 10 games there. The Marlins’ Brad Penny (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will make his second start this season after picking up a win in their 4-3 win against the Cincinnati Reds on August 9. Dating back to his days as a Detroit Tiger, Penny’s teams are 5-1 in his last six home starts.
Writer’s prediction: Marlins beat Arizona.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers (8:05 PM ET)
Line: Tampa Bay Rays at Texas Rangers – see all MLB lines
Jake Odorizzi (8-9, 3.89 ERA) and Robbie Ross (2-4, 5.61 ERA) start for their respective teams tonight as the Rays and Rangers play the rubber-match of their three-game series. The Rays are 3-0 in Odorizzi’s last three starts overall, the last one coming in their 9-0 win against the Chicago Cubs on August 9. In that game, the right-hander pitched six scoreless innings while striking out nine. The Rangers, meanwhile, are 0-6 in Ross’s last six starts, but are 5-1 in their last six after allowing at least five runs the previous game.
Writer’s prediction: Odorizzi outduels Ross, as Rays win.

San Diego Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals (8:15 PM ET)
Line: San Diego Chargers (+145) at St. Louis Cardinals (-160); total: 7.5– see all MLB lines
The Padres are 5-0 in their last five games and are charging into Busch Stadium looking to gain even more ground on their dim chances for at least a wild card spot. They’ll face a Cardinals team, which will send John Lackey to the mound (12-8, 3.98 ERA). Counting his days as a Boston Red Sox, Lackey’s teams are 4-1 in his last five home starts.
Writer’s prediction: Lackey’s stuff helps Cards end San Diego’s winning streak.
Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies (8:40 PM ET)
Line: Cincinnati Reds (+117) at Colorado Rockies (-127); total: 9.5 – see all MLB lines
Alfredo Simon (12-7, 3.08 ERA) has been winless since the All-Star break, going 0-4 with a 4.78 ERA in five starts since the Midsummer Classic. Some of the blame for his struggles should fall on the Reds’ offense, which has given Simon a paltry total of four runs in support in those starts. However, that might change when they face the Rockies’ left-hander Jorge De La Rosa (11-8, 4.34), as the Reds are 9-1 in their last 10 games against a lefty. The Rockies, though, are 4-0 in De La Rosa’s last four home starts.
