Betting on the Boston Bruins
[sc:NHL240 ]Tuukka Rask got his first shutout of the postseason in Game 3, turning away 23 shots in the 3-0 victory.
The Bruins again tallied another power play goal in Game 2, when defenseman Dougie Hamilton fired a wrist shot in the first period that gave Boston a 1-0 lead. The Bruins are now 3-8 in power play situations thus far in the series. Defensively, the Bruins have been just as good when defending against the Red Wings’ power play, having killed all nine attempts of Detroit.
With the offense finally humming and their defense clicking like it was during the regular season (2.1 goals allowed per game), the Bruins need to retain the same kind of tenacity on both ends of the ice to win their second in a row at Joe Louis Arena, where they are just 4-6 in their last 10 games.
Betting on the Detroit Red Wings
The search for their elusive first special teams goal in the postseason continued when the Red Wings went 0 for 4 in power play situations in Game 3. Detroit is now 0-9 with the man advantage through three games against the Bruins.
The Red Wings’ offense has been silent in the series. In Game 1, they were fortunate to have their one-goal output beat the Bruins, but that can’t be expected in every meeting against the merciless offense of the Bruins.
Without Daniel Alfredsson again – the team’s leader in regular season points (49) – in Game 4 due to back problems, his replacement, Joakim Andersson, must step up his play in order to fill the void left by the Swedish veteran. In Game 3, Andersson was minus-one in 8:17 of total ice time.
Moreover, it would help the Red Wings more if they could take care of the puck better in the next game. They had eight giveaways, including three from Pavel Datsyuk, in Game 3.
The under is 4-0-1 in Detroit’s last five home games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bruins are in championship mode after losing Game 1. Boston will take Game 4 by simply outscoring the Red Wings, on the way to paying out the -145 money line.
