The Boston Bruins tasted their first defeat in a long while in Game 2, thus allowing the St. Louis Blues to tie the series at 1-1. That’s a huge win for the Blues, who will look to double down on it in Game 3 at home. Will the Bruins answer right back? Or will the Blues get their turn to have the series lead? Betting on the Boston Bruins (49-24-9 Regular Season)
For the first time in nine games, the Bruins have lost, when they dropped Game 2 of the series, 3-2 at home. The Bruins didn’t seem to have their usual sense of urgency, as they got mightily outshot by St Louis, 37-23. Perhaps the loss would serve as wake-up call to Boston, which probably had gotten so used to winning in the playoffs that the Bruins inadvertently fallen to the trap of over-complacency. The Bruins are still a stacked team from top to bottom, and they yet to get top production from their first line of Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and David Pastrnak. In Game 2, it was the depth guys that scored the two goals for Boston. Once Marchand and his linemates get it going, it’s going to be difficult to contain the Bruins’ offense that is second among all teams that made the playoffs with an average of 3.32 goals per game.
The under is 5-0 in Boston’s last five road games.
Betting on the St. Louis Blues (45-28-9 Regular Season)
The Blues are hoping that star forward Vladimir Tarasenko stays hot. Tarasenko found the back of the net for the fourth-straight game when he scored in the first period of Wednesday’s win over Boston. That gave him his seventh point over the last five games. The Blues are more than just about Tarasenko, though, as their depth is starting to show its true value, especially after the defensive pairing of Robert Bortuzzo and Carl Gunnarsson each scored in Game 3, with the latter shipping in the game-winner in overtime. The Blues’ secondary players will have to match what their Boston counterparts are producing to negate one of the Bruins’ perceived advantage over St. Louis entering the Stanley Cup Finals. After dominating the possession in Game 2, the Blues should have an easier time replicating that in Game 3, as they are back in home ice, where they are 3-1 in their last four home games. Perhaps playing at home will also help the team’s special teams which went 0-for-5 on the power play over the first two games of the Finals.
Writer’s Prediction
Boston wins, 3-1.
