One the most anticipated WrestleManias of all-time is upon us, and the fuss extends beyond the obvious (we’re not going to bring that up again). For one, retired New England Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski is hosting the affair, so you can be sure that plenty of hijinks will ensue. But the main event is the WWE Championship match between eight-time champion Brock Lesnar and Drew McIntyre. McIntyre is actually favored by the sportsbook, but do the powers-that-be have something else in mind?

Brock Lesnar is coming in as the reigning champion. That typically makes one a favorite at any sportsbook, but this is World Wrestling Entertainment. Lesnar has dominated the WWE Championship scene since 2018, but do decipher what may happen this early April weekend we need to look at his most recent matches. At Super ShowDown in February 27, the eight-time champ defeated Ricochet in 90-seconds to retain his belt and lead him into WrestleMania as the headliner. Further back on January 26 at the Royal Rumble, Lesnar, who was entrant number one, eliminated the first thirteen competitors which tied the record for most eliminations in a Rumble match. Guess who spoiled his chance at claiming the all-time record? His up and coming WrestleMania 36 opponent Drew McIntyre, who ultimately went on to win the Royal Rumble.
At 42 and coming off of a stellar run since 2018 Lesnar may be due for a break, but with so many eyes on WrestleMania 36 he may prefer to win one more big one before winding down his storied career.
Betting on Drew McIntyre (-260 Odds to Win)
WrestleMania Win/Loss Record:
- 0-4 (mixed events)
Physical Stats:
- Height: 6′ 5″
- Weight: 265 lbs
- Stance: Orthodox
- Age: 34
Drew McIntyre is a one-time Intercontinental Champion and two-time WWE Raw Tag Team Champion. With a 24.64% win, 2.16% draw, and 73.20% loss record in the WWE he doesn’t exactly look like a favorite, but when it comes to WWE betting that may be the point.
McIntyre had a bit of a hiatus in 2019 after being eliminated by Ricochet at King of the Ring, but he returned to Raw in October and competed in a series of team-based events as the 2019 “season” wound down. At the onset of 2020 he started a winning run, including the fateful Royal Rumble where he stole the thunder from Brock Lesnar to win and earn his place at WrestleMania 36. All signs point to McIntyre being groomed to be the next WWE Champion.
Writer’s Prediction
McIntyre uses the Claymore Kick (again) to takedown heavyweight Lesnar and wins the WWE Championship.
