FAVORITES
Rory McIlroy (+800)
It’s been a while since the Northern Irish saw action, so he’s entering the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship with fresh legs. The last time he teed off was in the 2022 Masters Tournament wherein he finished solo second. McIlroy, who won last year’s edition of the Wells Fargo Championship, has three top 10s and four top 25s while making the cut in five of six starts so far this 2021-22 PGA TOUR campaign.
Corey Conners (+1800)
Conners has been hot of late, going 6 of 6 is his last six starts – a stretch that includes a T11 in the 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, a sol third in the 2022 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play, and a T6 in the 2022 Masters Tournament. In his last start, he had a T12 in the 2022 RBC Heritage. He’s got experience playing at TPC Potomac, placing 41st in the 2018 Quicken Loans National.
Matthew Fitzpatrick (+1800)
Fitzpatrick is coming off a missed cut in his last start (2022 RBC Heritage) but that’s just his second missed cut this season. Overall, he has four top 10s in 10 starts, with his best finish coming from a T5 in the 2022 Valspar Championship. The 27-year-old Fitzpatrick is seventh this season with a scoring average of 69.988.
HIGH-VALUE SLEEPERS
Seamus Power (+4500)
Here’s what we said about Power in our 2022 Wells Fargo Championship Sleepers article.
The 35-year-old Irish is coming off a missed cut in his last start which was in the 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. That should only make him more of a sleeper, as he has been solid for the most part of the season. Power is 11 of 17 so far with four top 10s. Among those finishes was a T4 in 2021 The RSM Classic and a T3 in the 2022 Sony Open in Hawaii. HE also had a T5 in the 2022 World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play. There was a stretch from Febraury to March where Power missed the cut three times in a row, but he’s seemingly recovered form that, notwithstanding his performance at TPC Louisiana. Moreover, Power is fourth this season with a 71.44 greens in regulation percentage.
Anirban Lahiri (+8000)
Here’s what we said about Lahiri in our 2022 Wells Fargo Championship Sleepers article.
Ranked 25th in the world, Lahiri has yet to win a PGA TOUR event, but he appears to be on the right track. It was not that long ago when he had a runner-up finish in the 2022 THE PLAYERS Championship that was followed by three consecutive made cuts. He was in Mexico last week and stayed hot with a T15 in the 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta.
LONG SHOTS
Francesco Molinari (+12500)
Molinari is 6 of 10 this season with just one top-10 finish (T6 in the 2022 The American Express). He has missed the cut in each of his last two starts.
Andrew Putnam (+15000)
On the season, Putnam is 10 of 18 with three top 25s and a single top 10. Like Molinari, Putnam has missed the cut in his last two starts. Moreover, he is just 1 of 6 in his last six.
Writer’s Prediction
Corey Conners wins the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship.
