Betting on Caroline Wozniacki (-600)
Caroline Wozniacki is still looking for that elusive first title of the season. The World No. 6 is having an excellent season, going 38-14 on tour. However, she’s fallen just short on several occasions. She’s lost in the final at Doha, Dubai, Miami, and Eastbourne this season, and most recently went down in the round of 16 at Wimbledon.
She also hasn’t had a ton of success on clay. She’s crashed out within the first two rounds in three of her five clay-court tournaments this season. Although, she did make it all the way to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, tying her best-ever performance at that Grand Slam.
The Dane is the top seed at Bastad, and is heavily favored to get the job done against first-round foe Pauline Parmentier. Wozniacki is 2-0 in her two career head-to-heads against her French opponent, and has yet to drop a single set.
Betting on Pauline Parmentier (+400)
Parmentier is having a solid season by her standards. The World No. 99 has an 11-15 record on the tour main draw this year, marking the first time she’s ever had double-digit wins in back-to-back years.
Parmentier is only 3-5 on clay, though. She’s failed to make it past the second round in four of the five clay-court tournaments she’s entered. However, she did make it to the quarterfinals in her most recent tournament at Bucharest, and also reached the quarterfinals of her Challenger event at Contrexeville.
The 31-year-old Frenchwoman recently pulled off an upset on rising star Elise Mertens in the round of 16 at Bucharest, which goes to show that she is not to be taken lightly.
