Betting on the Charlotte Hornets (20-17)
The Charlotte Hornets are stuck in a bit of a rut. They have now lost three of their last four games after dropping another game against the Detroit Pistons, 115-114, on Thursday despite a big 44-point fourth quarter.
Kemba Walker continued his fine play with 32 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Over his last five games, he’s averaging 26.8 points, 6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists.
However, it’s the defense that’s been the problem of late. The Hornets have been giving up 116 points per game over those four games.
The Hornets have already been without starting center Cody Zeller for the past three games due to a concussion, and now, Nicolas Batum might miss some time after suffering a hyperextended his right knee against the Pistons.
Batum has been the Hornets’ second-best player this season behind Walker. The Frenchman is averaging career-highs in points (15.2), rebounds (7.5), and assists (5.9), and his absence will be huge considering the team’s already bad road record with him. The Hornets are just 6-11 (6-10-1 ATS) on their travels this season.
Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (29-7)
The San Antonio Spurs have been in a sour mood ever since their 114-112 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. After blowing out the Toronto Raptors 110-82 at home, they demolished the Denver Nuggets, 127-99, at the Mile High City. The Spurs have now gone 10-2 SU and ATS in their last 12 games.
LaMarcus Aldridge has been on quite a roll since the New Year. LMA is averaging 26 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting a sizzling 67 percent from the field. Tony Parker has also picked up his game. The veteran Frenchman is putting up 18.8 points on 56 percent shooting with 5.5 assists over his last four games. Not to be outdone, Kawhi Leonard has also put up 24 and 25 points in his last two games.
Aldridge and Leonard did the damage for the Spurs in their 119-114 win over the Hornets in Charlotte earlier this year.
The Spurs have been close to unbeatable against Charlotte franchise over the years, especially at home. They are 11-1 (9-3 ATS) over their last 12 meetings in San Antonio.
The Spurs have been a tad better on the road than they have been at home this season, but their home form is catching up in a hurry. They’re 8-0 (7-1 ATS) in their last eight home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Spurs put the Hornets to the sword and win 110-92.
