Betting on the Chicago Bears (odds)
Regular Season Record: 1-0
Despite the bad turf condition at Soldier Field, the Bears managed to get a win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 of the preseason, 19-14, last Saturday. Justin Fields did not play a lot, but he went 4/7 for 48 yards and had 10 rushing yards on just a carry. Fields is off to a good start, which he and the Bears would love to sustain. The Bears could also have an easier time in Week 2 of the preseason not only because they will play on a more desirable field but also because Seattle’s defense seems shot. The Seahawks just allowed over 400 total yards to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, including 185 on the ground. Fields and the Bears racked up 137 rushing yards in Week 1, so this appears to be a great opportunity for Chicago’s backfield to go off anew.
The Bears are 2-1-1 against the spread in their last three games in the preseason.
Betting on the Seattle Seahawks (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
The quarterback battle continues for the Seahawks following their 32-25 loss on the road to Pittsburgh. And that will again be the focus when the Seahawks play their first game of the preseason at home Thursday. Geno Smith started and played the first half, coming up with 101 passing yards with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions on 11/15 completions. He also had a rushing score before Lock took over. Lock went 11/15 for 102 passing yards and a couple of touchdowns, though, his crucial fumble led to the Steelers’ game-winning drive. Nevertheless, the Seahawks must still be impressed with how their quarterbacks have been playing. Wide receiver DeeJay Dallas will be a man to watch for the Seahawks after he led the team with 73 rushing yards on 10 carries against the Steelers. Seattle’s defense underwhelmed in Week 1, but with the less lethal Bears offense up next, the Seahawks can be expected to put together a better performance on that end of the field this Thursday.
The Under is 5-1 in the Seahawks’ last six games in the preseason.
Writer’s Prediction
The Seahawks win, 23-17.
