Betting on the Chicago Bears (TBA)
Jay Cutler made a victorious return in Week 8, leading the Chicago Bears to a big-time upset over the visiting Vikings, 20-10. Tasked with facing arguably the toughest defense in the league this season, he responded with a solid, error-free performance: 252 passing yards, one touchdown pass and zero interceptions.
Cutler’s lone TD pass went to Alshon Jeffery, who finally found the end zone for the first time this season. Jordan Howard, on the other hand, had the best game of his life, rumbling for a career-high 153 yards and a 2-yard running score.
By the end of the game, the Bears outgained their NFC North rivals, 403-258, and ultimately snapped a three-game skid to capture just their second win overall. Chicago now gears up for a road trip to Florida, fresh off their bye week, against a win-hungry Bucs team that’s lost its last two games, both of which were at home.
Expect the Bears to rely heavily on the pass here, as Tampa Bay is giving up close to 300 yards passing this season. Hence, watch out for another nice outing from Jeffery, who currently leads the team with 583 yards receiving.
Chicago is 2-3 ATS in its previous five games.
Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (TBA)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a rough time winning at Raymond James Stadium this season. In fact, they’ve yet to get one through four games (0-4 ATS) there, and have suffered back-to-back losses to Oakland and Atlanta.
During those two setbacks, the Bucs have allowed 1,087 offensive yards and 73 points all in all, a clear proof of how disappointing their overall defense has been. Their next opponents—the Bears—will surely eat them alive if this kind of defensive effort shows up once more.
On offense, however, there are a number of positive things to take note off. One of which is the growth of Mike Evans, who has quickly turned into one of the best receivers in the NFL today. The 23-year-old was absolutely dominant despite the loss to Atlanta, hauling in 11 catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the possible returns of Doug Martin and Jacquizz Rodgers are very good news for the Tampa Bay faithful. The presence of those two provides balance in the offense, and will ease some of the pressure off of quarterback Jameis Winston.
