Starters: Dylan Covey (1-1, 2.82 ERA) vs. Chris Sale (5-3, 3.00 ERA)
Pitching:
Right-handed hurler Dylan Covey looks to get back-to-back wins this Friday in Boston after taming the Milwaukee Brewers at home on Jun. 3 in which he pitched 5.0 shutout innings and allowed just four hits in a 6-1 win. Covey, however, will get matched up with strikeout artist and former White Sox pitcher Chris Sale. Sale, though, hasn’t been up to snuff in his last two starts, both ending in losses and wherein he allowed 10 earned runs on 11 hits in 10.1 total innings of mound duty. Sale is 2-1 with a 3.62 ERA in five home starts this year.
Hitting:
- The White Sox have a collective batting average of .320 (8-for-25) against Sale.
Writer’s Prediction:
Red Sox win, 5-3.
Game 2 Saturday, June 9, 4:05PM EST
Starters: Carlos Rodon (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. David Price (6-4, 4.08 ERA)
Pitching:
After making four rehab starts, Carlos Rodon is set to make his 2018 debut this coming Saturday at Fenway Park. In those Triple-A starts, Rodon managed to collect a 1.53 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 17.2 innings on the mound. He went 2-5 with a 4.15 in 12 starts last season. Boston, on the other hand, sends David Price to the hill. Price won against the dangerous bats of Houston in his last start, allowing just three earned runs on five hits while striking seven Astros in a 5-4 win at Minute Maid Park on June 2.
Hitting:
- Avisail Garcia is 4-for-15 with a homer vs. Price.
Writer’s Prediction:
Red Sox wins, 6-3.
Game 3 Sunday, June 10, 1:05PM EST
Starters: Reynaldo Lopez (1-4, 3.42 ERA) vs. Rick Porcello (8-2, 3.59 ERA)
Pitching:
After getting shelled with seven earned runs on eight hits in only 2.2 innings of a disastrous start in a 9-1 road loss to Cleveland on May 30, Lopez bounced back and pitched seven scoreless innings, albeit in a 4-2 road loss to Minnesota. Lopez will look to build on that good showing as he goes up against Boston on Sunday. Porcello is coming off a nice performance in a 9-3 win over Houston on the road on Jun. 3, allowing just two earned runs on five hits in 6.1 frames. He is 4-1 with a 3.54 ERA in six home starts this season so far.
Hitting:
- Eduardo Nunez is the only Red Sox with a plate appearance against Lopez. He is 2-for-3 with two RBIs vs. his fellow Dominican.
- Avisail Garcia is 7-for-20 with a double vs. Porcello.
Writer’s Prediction:
Red Sox wins, 6-3.
