Baker Mayfield is heating up at just the right time. In the Browns’ 20-6 road over the New York Giants last Sunday, Mayfield completed 27 of his 32 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Mayfield’s confidence is high right now, though it’s always been that way. In the last four Browns games, Mayfield has managed to put up 1,232 passing yards and 10 touchdowns with just an interception on a 70.21 completion rate. It’s not a stretch to think that Mayfield will continue that kind of excellence against the Jets’ defense that is simply among the worst in the NFL. The Jets are 28th in the NFL with 29.5 points allowed per game and 30th with 279.8 passing yards surrendered per contest. New York’s stop unit is also last in the league with opponents completing 70.63 of their passes this season. That’s looking like a tasty meal for the Browns’ offense that averaged 34.3 points over the last three games.
The over is 3-1 in the Browns’ last four road games.
Betting on the New York Jets (+9.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-13
The Jets are not going to finish the 2020 NFL season winless. They made sure of that with a 23-20 upset victory over the Los Angeles Rams on the road last Sunday. However, that win might end up costing them in the long run, as they might just have lost their ticket in the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes. For now, though, at least the Jets have something to feel good about. With less pressure on themselves to get a win (I know that sounds weird) after successfully avoiding the zero-win club, Sam Darnold and the Jets could play a bit looser in Week 16. The Browns’ secondary has been a bit of an issue of late, so Darnold and his targets in Jamison Crowder, Chris Herndon, Breshad Perriman, and Denzel Mims could have another surprise for the rest of the league this coming Sunday.
The Jets are 4-2 against the spread in their last six games overall. They have also covered the spread in three of their last four games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
The Browns win, 32-20.
