Betting on the Cleveland Browns (+7)
Yesterday’s 33-13 loss to New England—Cleveland’s fifth-consecutive setback of the season—was another painful example of why God hates the Browns.
As the team was getting whipped by Tom Brady and company, the Browns saw their quarterbacks in Cody Kessler and Charlie Whitehurst exit with injuries, forcing Terrelle Pryor, a quarterback-turned-wide-receiver, to handle a few snaps for them. The three combined to go 20-of-35 for 235 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Besides the dire situation at quarterback, the Browns’ defense has been a laughing stock through five games into the season. They’re allowing opponents to score 29.6 points per game, currently tied for the worst in the league, and mount 402.6 yards of total offense.
With all of that being said, it’s hard to expect anything positive from the Browns heading into Week 6’s road trip against the Titans. The last meeting between these two clubs, though, went in favor of Cleveland. That’s probably the only good thing the Browns can carry into this game.
Cleveland, dating all the way back to the 2015 season, is 3-17 SU (6-13-1 ATS) in its last 20 games overall.
Betting on the Tennessee Titans (-7)
Marcus Mariota and DeMarco Murray both lit up the stat sheet in the Tennessee Titans’ successful visit to Miami on Sunday.
Mariota, who’s tallied five interceptions in the first four weeks of the season, played mistake-free football, throwing for three touchdowns and rumbled for another one in leading his team to a 30-17 victory over the Fins. Murray, meanwhile, made his presence known by amassing a season-high of 27 carries for 127 yards despite failing to score.
The Titans’ running game was really in full force against Miami, accumulating 235 yards on ground. They’re rushing attack should continue to find success in a favorable matchup with the struggling, banged-up Browns this weekend. Cleveland’s offense is in a state of chaos, particularly in the quarterback position, and the defense is giving away nearly 30 points per contest.
This could also be a good opportunity for Mariota to get the Titans’ passing game working. They have yet to really utilize their pass-catching trio of Delanie Walker, Rishard Matthews and Tajae Sharpe, all of whom have collected at least 159 or more receiving yards this season.
Tennessee, however, is only 1-9 SU and 2-7-1 ATS in its last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Mariota and the Titans (-7) pick up their second-straight win, 31-17.
