Regular Season Record: 8-3
The Browns surged to their third win in a row by beating the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road last Sunday, 27-25. Although the Browns didn’t get the win as easily as they preferred, they nevertheless moved a step closer to securing a berth in the playoffs. Baker Mayfield threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns without an interception on 19-of-29 completions, while Nick Chubb rumbled for 144 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. His performance was only topped by Jarvis Landry, who muscled out 143 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight receptions. The Browns’ offense is dangerous despite some shortcomings by Mayfield, largely because they have the 1-2 punch of Chubb and Kareem Hunt in the backfield. The Browns have rushed for at least 200 yards in two of their last three games and for over 130 rushing yards on all of their last three. The Titans have defended well against the run in Week 12, but that was against a Jonathan Taylor-less backfield of the Indianapolis Colts. The gap between the Chubb-Hunt duo from the tandem of Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins is galaxies apart.
The over is 3-1 in the Browns’ last four road games.
Betting on the Tennessee Titans (-4)
Regular Season Record: 8-3
Whereas the Browns have Chubb and Hunt, the Titans have arguably the most dominant individual in football today in the form of running back Derrick Henry. The bruising tailback rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries in the Titans’ 45-26 road win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. He did all that against a Colts’ defense that’s considered one of the best in the NFL today, but if you’re Henry, you simply just don’t care. Henry can do what he wants, as he’s repeatedly proven this season. He leads the NFL with 1,257 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging 4.9 yards per carry — also the best in the league. If the Browns continue to miss Myles Garrett and the other pieces on their defense, expect Henry to eat a lot on the ground again, though that might not matter at all at the end of the day. Last Sunday, the Browns got torched for 128 rushing yards and a touchdown by Jags rookie James Robinson. Imagine what Henry could do against that same Browns defense.
The Titans are 3-2 against the spread in their last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Browns win, 30-27.
