Betting Preview for the Cyril Gane vs Alexander Volkov Heavyweight Bout on June 26, 2021
Where: UFC APEX, Las Vegas, NV
When: Saturday, June 26, 2021
TV Broadcast: UFC Fight Pass
Betting on Cyril Gane (-175)
MMA Record: 8-0-0
Still unbeaten in his pro MMA career so far, Gane will look to climb further up the ranks in the heavyweight division when he takes on Volkov. Gane has already seen action this year, as he scored a unanimous decision victory over Jairzinho Rozenstruik last February. Prior to that, he destroyed former heavyweight king Junior Dos Santos via a second-round knockout in December 2020. Gane can be an avalanche of a striker inside the Octagon. He’s a volume striker who averaged 5.04 significant strikes per minute with a 55 percent striking accuracy. And he’s shown that he can be pretty challenging to hit, too. Gane is absorbing just 1.85 significant strikes per minute with a 69 striking defense percentage. Volkov is taller by three inches than Gane, but the Frenchman has a one-inch reach advantage, 81-80. Although he’s not viewed as a powerful striker (just three knockout wins), he’s an athletic specimen despite his size. His quickness should be a problem for Volkov.
Betting on Alexander Volkov (+145)
MMA Record: 33-8-0
Volkov is on the rise again. After a loss to Curtis Blaydes in June 2020, the Russian has stitched together two wins in a row, beating Walt Harris in October 2020 and Alistair Overeem in February 2021. Both wins were via highlight-quality TKOs and showed how scary Volkov can be when he’s on top of his game. The win over Overeem even earned Volkov a Performance of the Night recognition. Volkov is one of the most accurate strikers not only in the division but in all of UFC as well. Right now, Volkov is second among all active heavyweights with a 58.7 significant strikes accuracy percentage. In addition, he has 22 knockout wins against just two knockout losses, thanks in large part to his equally impressive ability to dodge strikes. Like Gane, Volkov has got a solid striking defense, as he has 56.6 percent of strikes thrown at him, so far in his time in the UFC.
Volkov wins via knockout.
