Betting on the Detroit Lions (2-1)
The Detroit Lions are one of the hottest 2-1 squads in the league. Their two wins have come in pretty convincing fashion and their lone loss to the defending NFC champion Atlanta Falcons came by less than a yard and three seconds. Had their been an extra three seconds on the clock, the Lions would’ve had one last chance last week.
They’ll now face another tough test in the Minnesota Vikings, however, what they’ll have going for them is their opponent will be starting their backup QB again. Case Keenum looked absolutely brutal two weeks ago against Pittsburgh, but put on a show this past week against Tampa Bay. If Keenum can find his game again, the Lions could be in a bit of trouble considering Dalvin Cook is currently one of the best backs in the league to compliment him.
Should Keenum falter though, the second-best intercepting defense could and should capitalize. If the Detroit D can put on another show this week with a strong performance, they could be the team to beat in the NFC when week 4 is all said and done. Maybe not on paper, but Matty Stafford and his leos will be a tall task for even the best of teams if they can survive Minnesota and possibly take over the division.
Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (2-1)
Minny is loving life right now behind Dalvin Cook. The rookie out of Florida State is looking like one of the biggest steals of the NFL draft. He currently ranks second in rushing with 288 yards and second in yards per game with 96.0. If the strong Minnesota offensive line can continue to find him room out there, the Vikes may have this game in the bag. Yes, he’s that much of a difference maker.
However, the lone down side for the Vikes, is that we don’t know which Case Keenum will show up – the week 2 or week 3 version. Minnesota is hoping it’s week 3 because last week, Keenum threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns. He nearly had two receivers in the triple digits and gave Stefon Diggs an early christmas present with 173 yards and a pair of majors.
If Keenum shows up, they’ve got a shot. If the Minnesota defense arrives as well, they’ve likely got a win in the bag. Minnesota is currently 29th against the pass and 4th against the run – that will need to change. If their air defense can play at least a couple of strong quarters, this could definitely be a W for the purple.
Writer’s Prediction
Minnesota wins a nail biter 24-23.
