Betting Preview for the Dominick Reyes vs Jiri Prochazka Light Heavyweight Bout on April 17, 2021

Where: UFC APEX, Las Vegas, NV

When: Saturday, May 1, 2021

Odds: Dominick Reyes (+115) vs Jiri Prochazka (-145

TV Broadcast: ESPN

Betting on Dominick Reyes (+115)

MMA Record: 12-2-0

Reyes is looking to recapture his once-dominant form. Undefeated through his first 10 pro fights, Reyes finds himself trying to dig out of a two-fight-losing skid after falling prey to Jon Jones and then to Jan Blachowicz. Known as “The Devastator,” Reyes can get his confidence back when he takes on a UFC newcomer in Prochazka, who has fought just once under the promotion. Reyes has excellent striking skills, which allowed him to score seven knockout wins. In his last win, he scored a TKO over former champion Chris Weidman. There was also his four-fight win streak from 2016 to 2017 which he won all via KO/TKO. Having lasted five rounds inside the Octagon, albeit in a loss to Jones, also shows how tough Reyes can be. The Team Cage Combat Academy fighter is landing 50.35% of his significant strikes. His 4.53 significant strikes landed per minute is also fourth overall among active UFC light heavyweight fighters.

Betting on Jiri Prochazka (-145)

MMA Record: 27-3-1

Prochazka announced his arrival in the UFC in a loud way, scoring a knockout win over former title contender Volkan Oezdemir in the second round of their fight back in July 2020. The win also earned him a Performance of the Night honors and extended his undefeated streak to 12 fights, dating back to his days in the Rizin Fighting Federation. Prochazka projects to be a dangerous striker, as evidenced by the fact that over that 12-win streak, he’s scored a total of 10 KO/TKO victories. Another thing going for Prochazka in this fight against Reyes is that he’s got a three-inch reach advantage. That should make Reyes think twice before going attacking Prochazka, who obviously has power behind his strikes. The fact that Prochazka has 23 wins via knockouts tells a lot just how explosive he can be when trading strikes.

Writer’s Prediction

Prochazka wins via knockout.
