Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (21-5)

Duke will go as far as where its offense takes it. Of course basketball is a game where the team with the most points win, but it’s just highlighted more with the Blue Devils, who are second nationally in scoring with 88.2 points per game. They’re not selfish either, as they record 18.3 dimes per contest, fourth most overall.

With an en embarrassment of riches in terms of talented scorers, Duke could dominate a game from  start to finish. It has six players averaging in double digits scoring, led by freshman Marvin Bagley III, who is simply dominating the conference.

Bagley leads the ACC in points (21.2 per game) and in rebounds (11.4). Duke shoots 50.4 percent from the field, which looks unfair considering that the Blue Devils already are 16th in field goal attempts per game with 63.3. Clemson presents a stiff challenge for Duke, but the Blue Devils have dominated the Tigers over the past few years, going 8-2 SU (5-5 ATS) in the last 10 matchups.

Betting on the Clemson Tigers (20-5)

Clemson is coming off a gut-wrenching 81-79 overtime loss in Tallahassee against the Florida State Seminoles last Wednesday. The Tigers committed 21 turnovers in that game, which they are surely regretting. The Tigers are only averaging 12.5 turnovers per game, so expect them to do a better job carrying the ball against Duke. Speaking of defense, it is the Tigers’ main calling card. Clemson is 24th in the nation with just 65.8 points surrendered per game.

Clemson’s defense has been tested before by an elite scoring team and the Tigers came out on top in at least one of those games. When the Tigers hosted the No. 19 Tar Heels on Jan. 30, they limited the defending national champions to five points fewer than North Carolina’s season average.

Clemson is a tough team to crack at home. The Tigers are 10-0 SU in their last 10 home games. They are  also 8-1 ATS in their last nine games  in Clemson.

Writer’s Prediction:

Sorry Duke haters, but the Blue Devils take this one, 78-74.
