Three Reasons Why Dustin Johnson Will Win the 2016 British Open

No other golfer will enter Royal Troon hotter than Dustin Johnson, who is currently priced at +800 to win his first-ever British Open title.
Johnson’s hot off his maiden major title win at the U.S. Open, and then followed that up with another spectacular victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. In addition, his last four starts have all resulted into top-5 finishes.
And if DJ has one claim to fame, it’s that it he has always been consistent. This season has been no different; he has 10 top-10 finishes in 15 tournaments played without missing a cut. It took Johnson quite some time before finally getting over the most “major” of all humps, but 2016 definitely appears to be his year to bask under the PGA Tour’s limelight.
Coming Through in the Clutch
Both of Johnson’s latest victories were not won in dominant fashion. In fact, the 32-year-old had to come back from a four-hole deficit after 54 holes at the U.S. Open and from three holes down after another 54 at the Bridgestone Invitational.
Johnson may not be capable of seizing and holding unto an early lead, but his tenacity come crunch time is actually more beneficial in the latter rounds of play where everybody steps their game up. Johnson, obviously, is one of the best at closing out tournaments when it matters the most.
Good Track Record at The Open
The U.S. Open may be Johnson’s favorite major and the one where he’s had the most success, but the South Carolina native doesn’t crack under pressure when he has to perform across the pond.
Johnson has made six-consecutive cuts at the British Open in as many seasons heading into Thursday’s installment of the tournament, having nabbed four top-15 finishes along the way at that. His best finish at The Open was when he was a joint runner-up in 2011, which he then followed-up with a solid T9 finish the year after.

Johnson (+800) fails to secure his third-consecutive PGA Tour title, but does bag another superb top-5 finish at Royal Troon.
