Betting on the Georgia Bulldogs (+4)
Record: 3-0 Overall / 3-0 Conference
Stetson Bennett continues to deliver for the Bulldogs. In just his second career start for Georgia, he completed 16 of 27 passes and totaled 238 passing yards with a pair of touchdowns in last week’s 44-21 home win over the Tennessee Volunteers. He also rushed for a touchdown to add to his unforgettable day. Bennett seems to have won over head coach Kirby Smart’s confidence, and he could further inspire under center if he can get the Bulldogs past Alabama. The Bulldogs are averaging 36.0 points per game, good for 20th in the nation. After seeing the Ole Miss Rebels score almost 50 points against Alabama’s defense last Saturday, Bennett and the Bulldog should be excited to test that seemingly susceptible Crimson Tide stop unit that allowed 365 passing yards and two touchdowns to Rebels QB Matt Corall. Georgia’s own defense has also been dependable this season, particularly its pass rush. The Bulldogs jumped to second in the SEC with 10 sacks on the season after taking down Tennessee QB Jarrett Guarantano five times.
The Bulldogs are 5-3-1 against the spread in their last 10 games against Alabama, dating back to 1995.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (-4)
Record: 3-0 Overall / 3-0 Conference
Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is not the sexiest signal-caller out there, but he’s getting the job done nonetheless. Jones threw for 417 passing yards and two touchdowns without an interception on 28 of 32 pass completions in the Crimson Tide’s 63-48 road win over Ole Miss last Saturday. On the season, Jones has thrown for 1,101 yards and eight touchdowns against just a single interception. Moreover, his 95.3 quarterback rating is second overall in the nation. Jones has been steady under center for Alabama and he’s got his protection unit to thank for that a lot. For one, the Crimson Tide offensive line has given up just four sacks, so far this season. It doesn’t hurt Jones that he’s also got three top 10 SEC receivers for him to throw at. Jaylen Waddle, who had 120 receiving yards on just six receptions against Ole Miss, paces Alabama with 132.0 receiving yards per game. DeVonta Smith and John Metchie are fifth and seventh in the conference in receiving yards per contest, respectively. Those are great weapons for Alabama to stretch and loosen up Georgia’s pass defense, which will have to commit more bodies downfield than in the trenches against the Crimson Tide.
The Crimson Tide are 3-0 against the spread in their last three games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The Crimson Tide win, 31-26.
