Betting on the Georgia Bulldogs (-8.5)

Record: 12-1 Overall / 8-0 Conference

Georgia kissed its dreams of an undefeated season goodbye when the Bulldogs lost in the SEC Championship Game to the Alabama Crimson Tide, 41-24. The good news for Georgia is that it has gathered enough wins to keep Kirby Smart’s team in the College Football Playoff picture. Despite that loss to Alabama, Georgia’s defense should remain formidable in the eyes of Michigan. The Bulldogs have shut out a total of three teams this season. They beat the then-no.8 Arkansas Razorbacks at home in October to the tune of a 37-0 score. Georgia also held the Clemson Tigers, Auburn Tigers, Kentucky Wildcats to just a total of 26 points. On the season, Georgia is allowing just 9.8 points per contest and 265.1 total yards per game – no. 1 and no. 2 in the nation, respectively. Georgia’s offense is almost as fine as the team’s stop unit, as the Bulldogs are eighth nationally with 38.0 points per game and fourth with 6.9 yards per play.

Georgia is 6-2 against the spread in its last 8 bowl games.

Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (+8.5)

Record: 12-1 Overall / 8-1 Conference

Jim Harbaugh has finally sent the Wolverines to the College Football Playoff semifinal, and now he’s looking for more. Unlike Georgia, the Wolverines are riding an undefeated streak into the Orange Bowl. Michigan has won all of its last five games, and what a stretch that was. It includes a win over the then-no. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes and a victory against the then-no. 13 Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Championship Game. Michigan’s rushing attack is a legitimate game-changer. The Wolverines are racking up 223.8 rushing yards per game. Even against the stingy Iowa defense, the Wolverines managed to collect 211 rushing yards and four rushing scores on 34 total carries. When Alabama beat the Bulldogs, the Crimson Tide had 115 rushing yards and a touchdown on 26 carries. Also, the Wolverines’ defense is second-best in the nation – just behind Georgia’s.

Michigan, which is giving up only 16.1 points per game, is 5-0 against the spread in its last 5 games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Georgia wins, 27-19.
