Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (TBA)
Backup quarterback Scott Tolzien fought for most of the night in Thursday’s 28-7 loss to the Steelers, passing for 205 yards with a second-quarter touchdown pass to Donte Moncrief –the Colts’ only score of the game—and two picks.
Tolzien’s efforts were solid, but it was clear that Andrew Luck, who was sidelined because of a concussion, was really missed by Indy, which saw its two-game winning streak snapped on Thanksgiving Day. Luck’s set to return next week, so the offense should be back to normal against the slumping Jets.
The Colts might be shorthanded again, this time without top receiver T.Y. Hilton, who went down with a back injury versus Pittsburgh. With him potentially out, that leaves Luck with Moncrief, Dwayne Allen and Phillip Dorsett as his main targets against a New York passing defense that’s given up 17 touchdowns this season, among the most in the league.
Indianapolis is 2-3 SU and 2-2-1 ATS in its last five road games.
Betting on the New York Jets (TBA)
New York’s now lost three-consecutive games, with the latest two at home versus the Rams and Patriots.
Sunday’s game with New England was fun to watch, despite the loss. The Jets were in driver’s seat for the most part of the final period until Tom Brady led a heroic late-game drive that was capped off by an eight-yard, go-ahead TD pass to Malcolm Mitchell with less than two minutes in regulation.
QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who threw for two touchdowns and played mistake-free football, failed to answer back in his final drive as the Pats D forced him to a crucial fumble, which eventually sealed the Jets’ fate.
The Jets, however, have a good chance of ending their slide against the visiting Colts this coming Monday. Indy’s also coming off a loss, and its defense continues to struggle in stopping the pass, allowing Antonio Brown to collect three touchdown passes in Thursday’s loss to Pittsburgh. The same fate could happen to either Brandon Marshall or Quincy Enunwa, both of whom connected for a touchdown with Fitzpatrick in the tough loss to New England.
New York is 2-2-1 ATS in its last five home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Jets win it, 30-24.
