Regular Season Record: 2-4
The Colts recovered from their gut-wrenching loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5 on the road by beating the lowly Houston Texans at home in Week 6, 31-3. The Texans were exactly what the doctor ordered for Indianapolis, which needed a pick-me-up win to restore the team’s morale. The Colts could be up for another win this coming Sunday on the road, as they will be facing a slumping 49ers squad that has not tasted a victory in weeks. Jonathan Taylor could be let loose again by Indianapolis for this game. Taylor had 145 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Texans despite getting just 14 carries. But the Colts might give him more touches out of the backfield this time around. For one, the 49ers are just 18th in the NFL with 113.2 rushing yards allowed per game and 16th with 4.3 yards allowed per carry.
The Colts are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (-4)
Regular Season Record: 2-3
San Francisco entered its bye in Week 6 with a three-game losing skid. In Week 5, they suffered a 17-10 road loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Jimmy Garoppolo was not able to suit up for that game, though, because of a calf injury. The long rest could have Jimmy G ready for this date against the Colts. If not, then Trey Lance could be starting again. Lance had 192 passing yards without a touchdown on 15/29 completions against the Cards. He was also sacked twice and got picked off. Lance is also reportedly dealing with a knee issue that kept him out of practice last Monday. This QB situation for San Francisco is one to monitor, though it seems that Garoppolo is trending in the right direction. Either way, the 49ers will ask for their defense to step up and contain Indianapolis’ attack. The Niners managed to keep Arizona’s lethal offense to just below 20 points. They should be able to do a good job against the Colts, who are just 22nd in the league in third-down conversion percentage and 19th in points per game (23.2).
The under is 5-0 in the 49ers’ last five games after a by week.
Writer’s Prediction
The Colts win, 23-20.
