Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (7-3)
The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the best teams in the AFC this season, and have won four straight games. Quarterback Blake Bortles has been bad this year, and was bad again in last weeks win. Bortles was 17 of 30 for 154 yards and one touchdown. Bortles has passed for 2,084 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.
Despite his underwhelming play, the Jaguars are winning games. Running back Leonard Fournette ran the ball 28 times for 111 yards last week. Look for the Jaguars to rely heavily on Fournette again in this weeks matchup. He should keep the Cardinals defense honest this week.
Defensively, the Jaguars unit is arguably the best in the NFL right now. Jacksonville is allowing 14.1 point per game this season. That’s good enough for first in the league this year. The Jaguars secondary allowed Deshone Kizer to pass for 179 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions last week against the Browns. Look for the Jacksonville cornerback Jalen Ramsey to shut down the Cardinals passing attack. Expect the Jaguars defense to generate at least one turnover this week against Arizona.
Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (4-6)
The Arizona Cardinals are having another letdown of a season. Again, injuries at the quarterback position, have ruined the Cardinals chances at a postseason opportunity again this year.
Arizona has lost two games in a row, and most recently lost to the Texans, 31-21. Backup Blaine Gabbert was decent in last weeks loss. He was 22 of 34 for 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. If Gabbert had not thrown two interceptions, the Cardinals could have been on the winning side of things last week.
Running back Adrian Peterson, need to play better this week. He had 26 yards and no touchdowns in the loss. Defensively, the once feared Cardinals defense, has became a vulnerable unit. The Cardinals allowed 357 yards against the Texans who started a backup quarterback. If Arizona is going to stay in this game, the defense must limit Leonard Fournette to under 100 yards rushing.
Writer’s Prediction:
The Jaguars are the better team, but can they play that way in a tough road environment this week? Blaine Gabbert is not going to be the answer this week against the best defense in the NFL. The Jaguars are going to smother the Cardinals defensively, and cover on the road. Take the Cardinals. Pick: Jacksonville (-4.5)
