Betting on Jeff Horn (+700)
Jeff Horn will always be remembered as the Australian schoolteacher who beat the legendary Manny Pacquiao, albeit in a controversial fashion, but he could add more to his own legend this June if he could also beat the still undefeated Terence Crawford. After winning the WBO welterweight title at the expense of Pacquiao, Horn successfully made his first defense of it in December, when Corcoran’s corner had to stop the fight in the 11th round due to cut on their fighter’s face. Horn had a cut himself but stayed upright for the duration of the contest, further showing his toughness and willpower. As for the tangibles, Horn can be a crafty counterpuncher despite his limited athleticism. Horn, despite being a title holder in this fight, is the underdog since, partly because he has yet to fight outside of Australia. The brighter lights in Las Vegas might be a distraction for the 30-year-old boxer, who has an 18-0-1 record with 12 wins coming by way of knockouts.
Betting on Terence Crawford (-1200)
Jeff Horn must have known how dangerous of a fighter Terence Crawford is long before he knew he’s going to share a ring with him. Crawford owns a 32-0-0 record with only nine opponents escaping with a non-knockout loss. In his last trip to the ring, Crawford knocked Julius Indongo to defend his WBO and WBC super lightweight titles and steal Indongo’s IBF and WBA super lightweight belts back in August. Crawford is now moving up a division to face Horn, but the general perception is that he’ll have little to no problem bringing his power up in the heavier weight class. Prior to that, Crawford stopped Felix Diaz in May of last year in New York. Crawford’s record suggests that his power is going to be a problem for Horn, who possesses power himself but likely not on the same level of the American’s. As someone who also has yet to lose, Crawford can be said to have a strong chin, too. Crawford has a two-inch reach advantage over Horn, 30-28.
