TV Broadcast: Showtime

Betting on Joseph Parker (+600)

Anthony Joshua has plenty of advantages over Joseph Parker, but perhaps the clearest one is something that has nothing to do with boxing technique. Joshua is fighting in his home country, which is always a plus especially for a fighter defending his belt. Apart from the location, Joshua also has the edge in the physical tools department as he is taller and owns a six-inch reach advantage over Parker. That reach advantage is going to make it hard for Parker to bully his way into Joshua’s defense. Parker will also have to worry about Joshua’s power, as the British heavyweight has 20 wins as a pro with all of those victories coming by way of knockouts. Joshua is also the busier and more aggressive fighter based on stats, as he averages 15.1 punches landed per round on 34.6 percent connection rate compared to Parker’s 9.8 percent punches landed per round on 23.6 percent success rate.

Betting on Anthony Joshua (-1000)

Parker will be facing the best fighter so far in his career in the form of Joshua in foreign land as mentioned earlier. That said, Parker is not new to Europe, as he fought and defeated Hughie Fury in September of last year via majority decision. Like Joshua, Parker is also a champion and undefeated. Parker currently owns WBO heavyweight title and a 24-0 record. He has 18 wins by knockouts, so his power can’t be underestimated. Joshua does not have that strong of a chin, as we saw him get rocked by Wladimir Klitschko before.  Back when he was still an amateur, Joshua was also stopped by a fighter named Mihai Nistor in the third round during a fight at the European Amateur Championships in Turkey many years ago. Joshua is vulnerable to power punches, and Parker will just have to patient in picking his moments for attack.

Writer’s Prediction

Anthony Joshua wins via knockout in the fifth round.
